Contractors have handed over the new Qatar Heart Centre to Hamad Medical Corporation.HMC has begun equipping the first cardiology hospital with all necessary medical equipment in preparation for its official opening soon. The centre was originally slated for opening in 2008, but the project has been delayed.
The medical tower, located close to Rumailah Hospital, can accommodate 120 beds and will provide specialised care in heart diseases. It has state-of-the-art technology built to meet the requirements of the international accreditation agency, Joint Commission International, while preserving the traditional architecture and heritage stemming from the local environment.
There is an air-conditioned corridor between the new heart centre and Al Amal hospital to ease movement of personnel between the two hospitals. The ground floor contains the main entrance hall, reception, outpatient clinics, physiotherapy room, waiting rooms and management offices, in addition to trauma and emergency units with a separate entrance. The first floor contains three operation wings, laboratories, catheters and intensive care rooms.
