Hospitals are mostly in urban areas and the Ministry of Health owns almost all of them, although there are an increasing number of private hospitals and clinics. A number of private clinics have set up outpatient services in major cities. Most of them offer high tech treatment and diagnostic services and are extremely well organised and funded. All dental clinics in Albania are privately owned.

According to the Albania Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) medical tourism numbers for 2019 was 658 in 2019 compared to 276 in 2018. Total inbound tourism numbers were 6.4 million in 2019 compared to 5.9 million in 2018.
