There are many private hospitals in Pakistan. Healthcare in Pakistan is administered mainly by the private sector, 60% of all outpatient visits are private. The hospitals that provide the best standards of quality care are all managed by the private sector; and quality is variable.

The Government of Pakistan is keen on developing medical tourism as long as it costs them nothing. A task force was formed in 2009 under the Ministry of Tourism whose objectives were to explore proposals to promote and develop medical, health, spiritual and wellness tourism in Pakistan. It all faded away.
