Another step to a universal health system in Egypt

Vodafone Egypt, the country’s leading telecom operator, has secured a £100m (US$127m) contract to develop a digital platform to support the country’s new primary healthcare system. Vodafone’s programme is in partnership with IT giant DXC Technology to provide a digital healthcare services platform to facilitate the roll-out of Egypt’s universal health insurance scheme.

The platform is deliberately modelled on Britain’s National Health Service and the deal is backed by Britain’s Department for International Trade. It will begin as a pilot in Port Said, before being rolled out to four other governorates and then nationwide.
