Compulsory health insurance in Bahrain

Bahrain has announced a new system to provide basic health care for private sector workers. Health Minister Sadiq Al Shehabi says the system now compels companies with less than 50 workers to take part in facilities provided by the ministry.

Health Minister Sadiq Al Shehabi says the system now compels companies with less than 50 workers to take part in facilities provided by the ministry.

Companies with more than 50 workers can either sign a deal with licensed health insurance companies or an integrated medical facility.

Firm using the ministry health care facility will have to pay an annual BD72) per worker to use state hospitals.
