Compulsory health travel insurance for all visitors

Proof of health insurance will need to be provided by all visitors to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.

The Ecuador Tourism Ministry says that health insurance will be mandatory from May 1st 2018.

The Ministry of Tourism considers that health insurance for tourists is a meaningful action for the country’s tourism development, due to the benefit it offers when choosing Ecuador as a destination and the wellbeing of everyone visiting this country.

It will be acceptable to have travel insurance that includes adequate medical cover for the duration of travel and stay in Ecuador.

There is no exclusion for medical tourists, but Ecuador gets very few of these.
