Development fund to boost France health and wellness tourism

The Deposits Fund is setting up France Development Tourism with government officials and industry professionals. It has access to a billion euros to develop tourism facilities.

Minister of foreign affairs, Laurent Fabius explains, “The project will favour the renovation or construction of quality accommodation develop digital and infrastructure equipment, and provide aid to tourism businesses.”

France Development Tourism will be launched in 2016 and will have three components:

  • Increasing the capacity of tourism accommodation. New hotels and resorts will be built and several facilities will undergo major renovation. This will get 100 to 150 million euros from the Deposits Fund and 500 million euros will come through fundraising among institutional investors.
  • To target and improve the services of various tourist facilities including spas, and marinas. This will be financed from the fund with 400 million euros.
  • A development capital fund created by Bpifrance for SMEs connected to tourism in France. This will particularly support digital technologies and the fund has 400 million euros.

Although not exclusively targeted at health, wellness and medical tourism, none of these is excluded from the grants in the three categories
