Insurers Aetna and Cigna in the top 10 of most valuable healthcare brands

International health insurers Aetna and Cigna are among the world’s most valuable healthcare brands, according to research by consultancy Brand Finance.

Aetna was ranked third in a league of ten of the world’s most valuable healthcare companies, while Cigna came seventh.

Aetna has a brand value of $9.4bn (£7.3bn), a rise of 9% from last year, while Cigna’s is worth $6.9bn (£5.4bn), an increase of 29% since 2017.

Top of the league was US healthcare firm United Healthcare, with a brand value of $18.6bn (£14.4bn), a rise of 39% since last year, followed by US insurance company Anthem.

In a table of the top 25 most valuable brands, 21 were US companies, followed by German, French and UK companies.

According to the consultancy, Tenet Healthcare in the US saw the biggest drop in brand value this year, down 10% to $2.8bn (£2.1bn). The Dallas-based healthcare group announced on Monday (20 August) that it had exited the UK healthcare market with the sale of Aspen Healthcare to NMC Health.
