London Clinic and SIMC offer to Chinese nationals

The London Clinic, the UK’s largest independent private hospital and Shanghai International Medical Center (SIMC), a leading private hospital in Shanghai, have announced the start of a new strategic cooperation to deliver clinical services to Chinese nationals in China.

This is, according to the London Clinic, the first clinical service agreement between a Chinese and UK hospital where UK clinicians will be able to provide consultations, surgical intervention and knowledge transfer for the advancement of patient care in China.

While both hospitals provide a wide range of clinical services, the initial area for cooperation will be in urology, gynaecology and oncology. Using video links for initial clinical assessments and multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs), UK doctors will work under license with their Chinese counterparts to diagnose and deliver solutions for SIMC’s Chinese based patients in the state-of-the-art facilities in Pudong. As the partnership develops, the range of services will expand to other clinical activities as well as doctor and nurse training programmes.

The London Clinic is located on London’s Harley Street, the UK’s central district of private healthcare expertise. As a charity, The London Clinic reinvests its surplus profits into clinical research, new technologies such as its Centre for Robotics and 3T MRI scanning technology with the aim of advancing healthcare for patients and the global healthcare community. As such, the opportunity to continue sharing knowledge with one of China’s leading private hospitals has been welcomed by staff and clinicians alike.

Mr Al Russell, The London Clinic’s Chief Executive, said: “We are honoured and excited to have found such a progressive partner, who shares our pioneering values, within Shanghai International Medical Center (SIMC). The London Clinic has been a leading healthcare provider, serving patients from across the world, since our inception in 1932. This ground-breaking new relationship with SIMC will keep us at the forefront of patient care and support our aim of advancing healthcare.”

SIMC is an international hospital built according to modern service standards with reference to JCI hospital standards. It is a comprehensive hospital covering 70,000sqm of land with a floor area of 97,000sqm. As a major program supported by the Ministry of Health and Shanghai Government, SIMC is the first designated hospital for doctors’ to multi-practice in China. SIMC has over 2,000 consultants from Shanghai top public hospitals and has 500 beds, 118 outpatient consulting rooms, 15 operating rooms and 10 LDR units. SIMC also works with a wide range of domestic and international insurance companies.

Mr YU, Executive Director and CEO of SIMC said “As China celebrates its 70th anniversary, it is fitting that we also celebrate the bridging of China’s healthcare sector with that of the UK and specifically The London Clinic”. “Mr Yu continued “…with demand for healthcare in China growing so fast, ensuring we have committed partners to deliver world leading and value-based medical care from the UK means we will be able to match this demand”.
