New medical tourism and wellness packages in India

The government rolled out India’s first medical tourism and wellness packages on June 21 2017, National Yoga Day. With the plan of increasing medical tourism and traditional Indian wellness programmes, the government wants hospitals and wellness centres to register with the national medical and wellness tourism website.

The government wanted hospitals and wellness centres to register on the site before the launch. So that they can describe what they offer. They must show prices, the details of the procedures they offer, and their success rates to allow medical tourists to choose what suits them best.

The Medical Tourism and Wellness Board (MTWB) wants medical care assistance providers to be registered and trained by the ministry of tourism, in tandem with the ministry of health.

The National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) has begun to accredit traditional wellness centres providing treatment and care in the areas of Ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy, umami, siddha and homoeopathy.
