No new strategies for Jamaica

Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) has been trying, without much success, to promote medical and health tourism since the 1990s. JAMPRO has also been trying to attract clinics, again with little success.

The key focus of Jamaica is to promote health and tourism in the Caribbean by providing a proactive service for early detection of chronic kidney disease and on-going support for patients living with the condition.

JAMPRO is keen on attracting more investments into the health care sector to increase innovation and services for Jamaican and international patients. Earlier this year, Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton said that once the Cornwall Regional Hospital (CRH) was refurbished and the children's hospital planned for the same premises is complete, western Jamaica will boast the highest concentration of medical services in the Caribbean. The two, he said, will significantly boost health care services and the potential for health tourism in western Jamaica.
