Phase one of Sheikh Shakbout Medical City complete

Aimed at both locals and medical tourists, SEHA has now opened phase one of Sheikh Shakbout Medical City. Phase one offers adult cardiology; adult neurological; ear, nose, and throat; gastroenterology; haematology and ophthalmology clinics. Phase two is planned for early 2020. Along with the advanced burns treatment centre, there will be a urology section and special units to treat tumours, kidney diseases, rheumatism as well as bone, blood, cardiovascular and endocrine disorders and diseases.

Close to Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, when completed Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City will be one of the UAE’s largest hospitals and will include 732 inpatient beds, 2 helipads, 18 operating rooms, four wings for emergency and intensive care, acute surgery, maternity and children, and outpatient services.

Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City opened phase one in November 2019, two years later than planned, and replaces Mafraq Hospital. The name is misleading, as it is not a medical city with many operators, but one state run hospital with state run clinics.
