US$2,800 average spend per international patient

The Vice President of the Ukrainian Association of Medical Tourism (UAMT), Ihor Torsky, has been quoted in an article in Interfax-Ukraine saying that the average receipt amount from foreign patients in Ukrainian clinics in 2019 increased from US$2,000-2,500 to almost US$2,800.

Torsky stated that this finding came from UAMT’s annual research, and that he believed that in 2020 this spend could increase again. He recognised that the increase in revenue was also influenced by the pricing policy of the clinics, with some increasing their prices.

He also said that income varied by region. “In Kyiv, the average check is about US$3,240, in Lviv this amount is lower, because the structure of the provision of services differs from region to region,” he said.

The article also quoted President of the UAMT and President of the Global Healthcare Travel Council (GHTC) Violetta Yanyshevska who said that for the medical tourism market in Ukraine to develop, a number of problems needed resolving including visas for foreign patients and adding legislation for the sector.
