WhatClinic buys Toothpick

Ireland’s WhatClinic buys UK dental booking site Toothpick. The sector is moving to online real time booking, a key reason for the acquisition by WhatClinic.

Dublin based WhatClinic has bought UK dental booking site Toothpick.

Toothpick is free to consumers, fast and smart and the concept is simple. By giving patients the freedom to choose a convenient appointment at their preferred dental practice online, users can find and book their next dental check-up or treatment at the click of a mouse or the touch of a button no matter where they are.

WhatClinic is a healthcare comparison site for dental, cosmetic surgery and other medical treatment. Launched in 2007, it lists 120,000 private clinics in 130 countries, and serves between one and two million customers a month.

Customers interested in treatment now get information, then a quote and then book treatment with the clinic by phone or email.

A key reason for the buy is that competitors are moving away from how business has been done for a decade to instant online real time booking- as that is what many customers now expect. UK competitors in the UK include dental booking site Zesty, and laser eye surgery site RightClinic.

WhatClinic lists11,000 dental clinics in the UK and will initially use Toothpick’s expertise to bring in real time booking as an option for patients. It will then extend this globally in dental and eventually to all other clinics.

Sandeep Senghera founded Toothpick in 2013 and he says: “We work closely with UK dentists to ensure that their spare appointment availability is automatically published online. By joining forces with WhatClinic, we are able to open up our easy-to-use booking system to many more patients and clinics.” In two years Toothpick delivered 350,000 real time bookings.
