Inbound
Medical tourism numbers in
In 2005, according to PUC Minas, there were 30,000 medical travellers. Embratur used to claim 48,000 and 46,000 without any years mentioned; it also said that in 2006, 50,000 foreigners travelled to Brazil for health treatments, compared to 48,000 in 2005 and 30,000 in 2004. Estimates for 2007/2008 were around 60,000 but by 2009 local sources suggest it was far lower than 50,000 and probably a lot less, as other countries have overtaken Brazil.
