Hospital care is generally very good in Luxembourg. All 13 hospitals are run by the state Caisse de Maladie and all non-emergency hospital admissions must be arranged by a GP. Doctors work on a fee basis in state hospitals and their own private outpatient clinics and healthcare is very expensive.

According to a 2018 EU report, the number of medical tourists (ONLY those under the EU Cross-Border Healthcare rules) for 2016 was 12,530. Adding private patients could bring a total of 15,000.
